About the Job

The High Load Technician is responsible for Escorting Specialized/High Loads via a designated route, ensuring that utilities and other obstructions are raised and/or repositioned for safe travel. These utilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Secondary voltage drops
  • Traffic signals
  • Telecom/Telephone lines
  • Heavy Fiber/Data Transmission Lines

Job description:
The primary responsibility for this position consists of installing fiber duct, conduit and cable through the use of directional drilling, trenching and/or pulling equipment. Ancillary responsibilities include job-site safety, utility location, construction coordination, as well as equipment mobilization and maintenance.

Supervision Received:
Works under the supervision of and reports directly to the Foreman.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate directional drills/locators and similar heavy equipment;
Drive/tow truck with drill to job site;
Conduct pre-job site surveys to assure all utilities have been located and accounted for;
Perform routine labor (i.e. potholing, equipment set-up, conduit/duct/cable placement) as required;
Assure that all located utilities in the construction path have been potholed;
Complete regular maintenance on trucks and boring machines;
Clean, check fluid levels and conduct a visual inspection of vehicle/equipment to assure your vehicle/equipment is performing at optimum safety, perform the required pre-trip, post-trip inspections and required paperwork, perform needed maintenance including winterizing equipment;
Communicate with Supervisor daily;
Provide training and assistance to coworkers as needed;

Minimum Acceptable Experience and Training:

Essential Physical Abilities:
An employee in this class should have sufficient physical and mental capability, with or without reasonable accommodation to:
Listen and respond to voice instructions; to communicate effectively in person, on the telephone and in a courtroom environment; to discern verbal instructions;
View and review a wide variety of written and electronic materials, to operate both technology and heavy equipment as required in support of assigned responsibilities;
Perform essential job functions in an office or field setting that may require lifting/moving 50 lbs., bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching and other physical exertions including performing tasks involving hand/wrist/arm movements, all in inclement weather conditions and with exposure to personal hazards.

Tools, Equipment, and Information Technology (IT) Required for the Position:
Vehicles and equipment as required during working hours;
Personal protective equipment such as gloves, ear plugs, safety glasses, hard hats, safety vests and similar as required;
Equipment maintenance tools and supplies as needed;
Other miscellaneous office, technology, and software needs that are consistent with this job description from time to time as required.

Work Environment:
Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching and lifting (moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally moving up to 80 pounds).
Talking, hearing and seeing are essential to performing required job functions.
Frequent exposure to changing weather conditions.
Employees frequently work near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to vibration.
Daily local travel required in the normal course of job performance.

Travel Requirements:
The employee must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and proof of valid insurance.
Some local travel required.

About the Job

The Safety Director will develop and implement procedures, guidelines, and equipment to promote and ensure health and safety to all employees of MWE.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the organization’s safety and security operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and theft of equipment.
  • Inspects safety equipment; recommends replacements when necessary.
  • Provides expert guidance on best practices for identifying and reducing exposure to dangerous conditions.
  • Tours job sites and communicate with workers to identify safety risks and concerns.
  • Drafts reports, highlighting dangerous procedures, equipment, and other risks for management review.
  • Reviews, revises, maintains, and implements the organization’s safety, and security policies and procedures.
  • Review current safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Develops and implements a system to report, monitor, and correct safety issues.
  • Collaborates with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) representatives’ audits and inspections; documents corrective actions taken.
  • Adopts a proactive approach to providing a safe working environment; provides training and guidance to employees via safety bulletins, documentation, and training meetings.
  • Maintains knowledge of hazard prevention and safety best practices, equipment, and developments.
  • Oversees operations of vehicle and equipment locate software as well as conducting physical inspections to ensure all vehicles and equipment have GPS Tracking Devices.
  • Conducts asset loss investigations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to identify unsafe situations or potentially unsafe situations.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical principles and health and safety laws.
  • Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

Education and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field required.

  • Successful Completion of the OSHA 30 Certification
  • OSHA DOL Card
  • At least five years of experience in a construction environment required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to travel job sites for both locations and make visual inspections of safety practices and conditions.
